Colors: Blue, Orange, Green, Red, Purple.

Purple is the long color on this board. It drops down column 5, runs along the bottom row and climbs back up the left edge to reach its partner in the middle. Every move is forced, and the top row sorts itself out first.

Hints

Hint 1: where to look

Start along the top row, with Blue's dot in the top-left corner.

Hint 2: the first idea

Blue's corner dot can only step right, and from there it drops down next to its partner. Orange's top dot then has only one open side and heads right and down column 4.

Hint 3: the key step

Purple's top dot heads down column 5 and then has to run left along the whole bottom row. It finishes by climbing the left edge and turning into its dot at row 4, column 3.

Techniques used: Forced moves.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Every step below follows from the rules alone, with no guessing. Try the puzzle first and use the walkthrough when you get stuck.

  1. Step 1 of 5

Blue's top-left dot has only one open side, so it steps right and then drops down beside its partner. Orange's top dot now has only one open side too, so it moves right one and then two cells down column 4. Blue's ends touch, so they connect.

  2. Step 2 of 5

Green's top dot can only go right into the top-right corner, then two cells down the right edge. Red has one open side at each end, so its dot at row 2, column 1 drops into row 3 and its dot at row 3, column 3 steps left. Purple's top dot heads straight down column 5 for two cells.

  3. Step 3 of 5

The three long paths keep going with only one open side each. Orange and Green each go down two more cells, and Purple reaches the bottom row and turns left along it for two cells.

  4. Step 4 of 5

Orange turns left into row 5, column 3 and joins its bottom dot. Green's path now touches its dot in the bottom-right corner, so it connects. Purple finishes the bottom row, climbs the left edge to row 4 and turns right into its dot at row 4, column 3.

  5. Step 5 of 5

Red's two halves now sit side by side in row 3, so they join and the board is full.
